Disease-Based Health Outcomes Indices

GHO develops innovative health information products specifically tailored to the modern and emerging needs of the health care industry.  GHO’s core product – disease-based health outcomes indices (HOIs) – are derived from our Health Outcomes Indices portfolio and are scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2010.  Disease-based HOIs measure and forecast health outcomes at the population-level to reflect the health care industry’s fundamental activity, by measuring, analyzing and organizing outcomes data by particular diseases.

Based on our novel and proprietary methods, GHO will measure the current and future burden of various chronic diseases.  Each HOI is based upon real-world data related to clinical, economic and humanistic health outcomes.  Each HOI undergoes an extensive pre-publication evaluation and analysis, incorporating expert clinical input and independent validation.  Furthermore, each HOI is stratified by a particular sub-population, such as by geography, age, insurance coverage and ethnicity. 

Once published, each HOI will be frequently updated to capture the relative health gain or burden of a particular disease over time, thus reflecting current and emerging trends in outcomes research and disease management.  As part of this updating process, each HOI will be subject to a rigorous re-validation process to ensure that the HOI continues to be a robust measurement.  As a result of continuous testing and validation, GHO’s disease-based HOIs are superior to current health outcomes measurements.

A diverse spectrum of participants in the health care industry will benefit from disease-based HOIs.  Stakeholders include government healthcare programs, managed care organizations, life sciences, patient advocacy groups and the life insurance industry.  Each of these stakeholders will benefit from a mechanism that can accurately gauge the health of populations and provide a tool for cost-benefit analysis of new and existing treatment options. Subscribers will be able to gauge trends in changing health status for these chronic diseases and adjust their business and investment plans by using comparative effectiveness and analytical tools to meet the needs of their specific patient populations.
